Opportunities for Educators This Fall
Emporia, KS (08/29/2019) — Educators are being offered opportunities to increase their skill and knowledge through workshops and conferences provided this spring through The Teachers College at Emporia State University. Some events offered have graduate credit available.
September 6-7 - Teachers interesting in pursuing National Board certification are encouraged to get aner overview of the process at the State Farm Orientation Academy, hosted by the Great Plains Center for National Board Certification and held at the Jones Institute for Educational Excellence at 1601 State St. Interested parties need to contact Alvin Peters (gpeters@emporia.edu) so all attending educators receive materials. September 27 - "It's a Strategy Extravaganza," will provide a dynamic, high energy workshop packed full of exciting and practical teaching/learning strategies for elementary and middle school teachers. The presenter will be Sandie Floyd, a career educator with over 35 years of educational experience as an elementary classroom teacher, reading specialist, balanced literacy/guided reading consultant and Reading Recovery teacher. November 4 - The 22nd Annual Kansas Regional Reading Recovery® and Early Literacy Conference will be held at Emporia State. Lunch will feature then 2019 winner of the Bill Martin, Jr Picture Book Award Dan Santat, children's author and illustrator. The Jones Institute is offering the Math Leadership Institute, led by Dr. Lee Anne Coester, for area school districts to work with throughout the school year. Coester, recipient of the 2018 Kansas Association of Teachers of Mathematics Ray Kurtz Service Award for her exceptional work to the math teaching community, will lead workshops and offers the MLI's math lending library to participating school districts. The lending library contains manipulatives and other materials some school districts may not possess. For more information, contact Coester at lcoester@emporia.edu.
