October Art Forum features local sign painters; ESU galleries announce new exhibits
Emporia, KS (10/01/2024) — Alex and Andrea Polzin will host the October Art Forum on Friday, Oct. 4, from 4 to 4:50 p.m. at the Granada Theatre. As painters of large signs and murals, the two local Emporians and owners of A&A Signs have worked all over the nation with the goal of beautifying each place they work. Students, employees and the public are invited to hear their journey.
The Eppink Art Gallery will display oil paintings from Sophia Cuevas' exhibition "One Good Cry" beginning Friday, Oct. 4, through Friday, Oct. 25. The artist's work explores queer and trans futurity through a mythical ecology.
Alexander Stewart is hosting a Bachelor of Fine Arts Senior Exhibition featuring sculptures that focus on fear and death. The works, titled "Almost Alive," are on display in the Gilson Gallery.
Receptions will be held in honor of Cuevas' and Stewart's exhibits during the October Emporia First Friday, Oct. 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. in their respective galleries.
The public is welcome at each of these events, and admission is free.
Regular hours for the Eppink and Gilson galleries are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. For questions, please contact Stephanie Alaniz, gallery and outreach director, at salaniz@emporia.edu.
