Irick Joins Emporia State University Foundation Board

by Gwendolynne Larson

Emporia, KS (03/07/2019) — A retired executive with Westar Energy, Inc., is a new member of the Emporia State University Foundation. Larry D. Irick of Lawrence, retired vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary for Westar, is an Emporia State alumnus, earning both a bachelor of science in business degree in business administration and a bachelor of science degree in mathematics in 1979.

"I had a terrific experience in my college years enjoying the blessing of wonderful classmates and professors," said Irick, a native of Baldwin City. "I've always believed in giving back in time, energy and support to the causes that contributed to the personal and professional successes I've been so fortunate to enjoy.

"Having moved on from the demands of a full-time career, I hope that I can make a contribution to the Foundation Board and the future success of Emporia State, and also further my ongoing learning through work with the Board and its dedicated trustees."

Irick is one of five new trustees on the 52-member board. The trustees come from varied backgrounds representing the three undergraduate colleges and 16 degree programs across campus. They use their talents and professional expertise to generate, acquire and steward the resources the university needs to fulfill its mission.

Trustees serve as role models for potential donors by generously contributing of their own time and resources. They are actively involved in university events and programs and serve to raise philanthropic resources to advance the mission of Emporia State University.
