Glass Blowing on Public Display at Annual ESU Event
Emporia, KS (03/31/2025) — Those who are curious about the art of glassblowing and glass forming will enjoy a peek behind the curtain this weekend during the annual Glass Blowout at Emporia State University.
On Saturday, April 5, ESU's Art Annex at 1702 Highland St., will be open to the public between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. During that time guest artist Hoseok Youn will create glass pieces with assistance from ESU students.
Youn's artistic practice is focused on Venetian traditional glass, figurative sculptures and photography. He is inspired by pop culture, toys, science fiction and fantasy. Currently he is a studio lead and educator at Belger Art Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
A former adjunct professor and studio artist at Toledo Museum of Art, Youn is in Emporia this week presenting workshop to students in the ESU academic glass concentration in the School of Visual and Performing Arts. From 4 to 4:50 p.m. Friday, April 4, he will share his work during the art forum at the Lyon County History Center, 711 Commercial St. The art forum is part of the monthly First Friday Art Walk in downtown Emporia.
Beginning at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, the event concludes with a live auction at the Art Annex. Proceeds supports future visiting artists, supplies and equipment, educational field trips for ESU glass students and the purchase of a new glass furnace.
