ESU invites campus, community to First Friday art and music events
Emporia, KS (03/03/2026) — Emporia State University will once again feature a variety of unique art showcases throughout the month of March, starting with the Emporia First Friday Art Walk event on March 6.
Art Forum returns with speaker and local artist Deon Morrow. Morrow serves as the executive director of House of Morrow and is known for artwork that explores movement, emotion and memory through layered color and gesture. Art Forum is 4 to 5 p.m. on March 6 at the Lyon County History Center.
ESU's Eppink and Gilson galleries, located in King Hall, are also venues for First Friday.
Eppink Gallery displays "Effusion," a two-person exploration of medium through emotions, playing with surfaces through mixing paint and focusing on formal elements. The exhibition is by David Harmon and Susan Harmon.
Don Meyer's "Grays" is on exhibition at Gilson Gallery and reflects the artist's fusion of drawing and painting through the development of formal styles throughout his lifetime.
Both galleries host an opening reception on March 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. The artwork is then on display through Wednesday, March 25.
The final First Friday venue on the ESU campus is Heath Recital Hall, located in Beach Music Hall. A variety of musical performances featuring students and community members are planned to begin at 5 p.m. with community flute choir solos, duets and trios. At 6 p.m., the Emporia community flute choir performs and the evening wraps with additional flute performances beginning at 7 p.m.
All venues and activities are free and open to the public.
