ESU hosts 'Hot Times in the Heartland' film, Q&A with Filmmakers

by Brian Osbourn

Emporia, KS (03/28/2024) — Emporia State University will host a showing of the documentary film "Hot Times in the Heartland" on Thursday, April 25 at 6 p.m. in Science Hall 72. The documentary explores how a changing climate is impacting Kansas and the approaches communities are taking to adapt.

The feature-length film was produced by Dave Kendall, former host of "Sunflower Journeys" on public television and recipient of the Flint Hills Discovery Center's Friend of the Flint Hills distinction, with assistance from Rex Buchanan, director emeritus of the Kansas Geological Survey, and Laura Mead, a multimedia artist grounded in the tallgrass prairie of the Flint Hills.

A question-and-answer session with Kendall and Buchanan follows the showing.

The on-campus showing, which is sponsored by ESU STEM Outreach and the School of Science + Mathematics, is free and open to the public.
