ESU Associated Student Government Hosts Breaking Barriers Conference

by Brian Osbourn

Emporia, KS (03/05/2024) — The Emporia State University Associated Student Government will host the third annual Breaking Barriers Conference on Saturday, April 6, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The conference focuses on women in leadership with topics covering professional and personal support systems, civic engagement and the importance of showing up for yourself.

The conference keynote will be delivered by Teri Karjala, an ESU alum and business success therapist. Karjala is an author, podcast host and has been featured on national and local Colorado television. The keynote will include themes of unleashing potential and activating the "success switch."

Attendees can expect a safe space for women to enhance their leadership skills, network and share experiences. Sessions are diverse and informative, featuring advice on how to network, a discussion on Barbie and feminism and a presentation by Neelima Parasker, member of the Kansas Board of Regents and chief executive officer of SnapIT Solutions LLC. Undergraduate ESU students attending Regent Parasker's session will be eligible for a scholarship for free enrollment into a SnapIT Solutions self-paced training course.

ESU students, faculty, staff and community members, regardless of gender, are invited to attend. The conference is free, and lunch is provided. Register today at emporia.link/bbregister. Questions may be sent to Sophia Dawson, ASG president, at asgpres@emporia.edu.
