Emporia State University Foundation and Alumni Association Names Marcia Novacek Vice President for Alumni and Constituent Engagement

by Lindsay Thompson

Emporia, KS (08/22/2025) — The Emporia State University Foundation and Alumni Association proudly announces the appointment of Marcia Novacek as Vice President for Alumni and Constituent Engagement, starting Sept. 2. In this newly elevated executive leadership role, she will shape a bold, expansive engagement model designed to strengthen lifelong connections and unify the Hornet community across generations.

With more than 10 years of experience in relationship-focused, results-driven leadership, Novacek brings a deep background in client engagement, strategic planning and team development. Most recently serving as Senior Market Director at Akkodis, she led business development across the Midwest and managed large-scale IT and engineering consulting partnerships for Fortune 500 clients. Her ability to build strong, collaborative teams and lasting relationships across a broad range of constituencies made her a standout candidate for this transformative role.

"Marcia is exactly the visionary leader we need at this moment of transformation," said Dr. Jason S. Drummond, president and CEO of the ESU Foundation and Alumni Association. "She combines a personal passion for Emporia State with extensive professional experience leading high-performing teams, building partnerships and aligning engagement with strategic outcomes. We are thrilled to welcome her home."

A proud Emporia State University alumna, Novacek earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and was active in the Chi Omega sorority. Her Hornet pride runs deep - she and her husband are both alumni, and their sons have carried on the tradition as student-athletes at ESU.

"Returning to ESU in this role feels like coming full circle. It's more than just a professional opportunity - it's a chance to give back to a place that shaped who I am," said Novacek. "My personal connection fuels my commitment to ensuring that every student has a transformative experience. I want each Hornet to leave ESU with the same pride, sense of belonging and desire to stay connected that I've carried with me throughout my life."

In her new role, Novacek will lead a growing engagement team and serve as a core member of the Foundation and Alumni Association's executive leadership. She will lead a comprehensive strategy to foster meaningful connections with alumni, students, parents and friends of the university.

"My top priority in the first 6 to 12 months is to listen and reconnect - with alumni, students, parents, athletes and staff," Novacek said. "I'll draw on 25-plus years in recruiting, staffing and sales to build an engagement model that's dynamic, comprehensive and future-ready. What excites me most is the opportunity to reimagine how we connect Hornets across generations and geographies, with a special focus on empowering our newest alumni. Engagement starts at admission, and my vision is to foster a lifelong sense of pride and ownership in ESU from day one."

Novacek's appointment marks a significant milestone in the ESU Foundation and Alumni Association's commitment to redefining alumni and constituent engagement in public higher education. Her leadership will play a central role in expanding the reach and impact of Hornet Nation - ensuring every member of the ESU community feels seen, valued and connected.
