Dr. Filiz Tabak Named Permanent Dean of ESU School of Business and Technology
Emporia, KS (09/29/2026) — The School of Business and Technology at Emporia State University has a new leader. Dr. Filiz Tabak, who joined the school as interim dean in July, is now dean of the school.
"Dr. Tabak is an experienced, steady leader and a positive changemaker," said Dr. R. Brent Thomas, ESU provost and vice president for academic affairs, in announcing the promotion Sept. 25. "I have been impressed with what I have seen from her as a colleague and a leader who can strengthen and grow our School of Business and Technology. I look forward to working with her into the future."
Since arriving at ESU in July, Tabak has made positive connections on campus and in the Emporia community. She brings exceptional leadership and experience to the role of dean, and she is actively engaged with the faculty in the School of Business and Technology on a variety of tasks, including preparing for AACSB accreditation.
"I accepted the permanent role as I see tremendous potential in the School of Business and Technology and in the people who make it special," said Tabak. "We have an opportunity to build a distinctive school at the intersection of business, technology and entrepreneurship - one that is deeply connected to our students, our industry partners and the economic needs of Kansas."
Tabak shared her vision to move the school forward.
"My priorities will be strengthening our academic programs, expanding partnerships and experiential learning opportunities for students, supporting our faculty and ensuring that we are well-positioned for continued AACSB accreditation and long-term growth."
Tabak came to ESU after serving as dean and professor of management for the College of Business at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia. She earned three degrees from institutions in Istanbul, Turkey: a bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, a master's degree in marine physics and chemistry and an MBA with an emphasis in leadership and management. She later earned a Ph.D. in business administration from Oklahoma State University after spending several years in the Midwest.
Outside of work, Tabak enjoys spending time with her family. She is married and has two adult sons, and she is an avid dog lover. Her family also includes Coda Mae, a beloved goldendoodle who is rarely far from the center of attention.
