ESU STEM event celebrates Kansas Day

by Brian Osbourn

Emporia, KS (01/22/2025) — Celebrate the 164th birthday of the state of Kansas with an exciting, informative Science Saturday event at Emporia State University's Prophet Aquatic Research and Outreach Center on Saturday, Jan. 25. The event is from noon to 1:30 p.m., and each attendee is asked to register at esuparoc.com.

There is fun for all ages when the Topeka Zoo and Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve share all about native Kansas animals and plants. Activities will include interactive booths, crafts and a free live concert by Annie Wilson of the Tallgrass Express Band. Wilson is known for her bluegrass songs about the Flint Hills and was recognized as the Flint Hills Balladeer of Kansas in 2013.

Younger students can learn about winter weather and how animals survive in cold weather in the January Science Storytime on Thursday, Jan. 23, from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. The event features an engaging story and hands-on activities. Limited to 10 spaces, students and caregivers can register at esuparoc.com.

Both programs are free and open to the public.
