by Brian Osbourn

Emporia, KS (03/20/2024) — Emporia State University invites the community to participate in multiple science-focused outreach events during March. From the wonders of physics and chemistry to a tour of the stars, there are options for everyone.

The Peterson Planetarium will feature a one-hour show called "Dancing Among the Stars" on Thursday, March 28 at 4 p.m. The program will talk about the seasons and provide a live night sky tour. The shows are free and open to the public. Registration is required.

This month's Science Storytime at Prophet Aquatic Research and Outreach Center will take place on Thursday, March 21 from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. The event, led by ESU PAROC students, will explore the differences between butterflies and moths through literacy, movement and song, sensory play, crafting and outdoor activities.

Each Science Storytime session is designed for children 7 and under and includes an engaging story followed by a hands-on learning activity. A maximum of 10 students may attend and caregivers must accompany their student. Register at the PAROC website. The event is free.

Science Saturday explores the "Wonders of the Physical World" on Saturday, March 30 at 10 a.m. at PAROC. ESU faculty and students will take attendees through the different branches of science including the mysteries of outer space, chemistry, physics and earth science. Demonstrations and activities are planned, including a special guest, Paul Johnston, who will be giving tours of the Johnston Geology Museum. Johnston is a former, longtime ESU faculty member who was responsible for and continues to be heavily involved in the museum that now bears his name. Science Saturday is free to the public and open to all ages, but registration is required.
