Time capsule to be unpacked after quarter century

Emporia, KS (02/25/2025) — In the year 2000, "Gladiator," "Cast Away" and "Mission: Impossible II" premiered in movie theatres. Top 100 radio was playing NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears and Destiny's Child. And new TV shows included "Gilmore Girls," "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" and "Survivor."

In The Teachers College at Emporia State University, faculty, staff and students gathered to pack up a time capsule with items from the first year of the 21st century.

Now, 25 years later, that time capsule will be opened at The Teachers College.

The unpacking will happen at 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, in Jack Skillett Atrium in Visser Hall. Current faculty, staff and students will attend, as well as former administrators and faculty, plus alumni and members of the local community.

Breakfast items and coffee will be available at a social time that begins at 8:30 a.m.

For those who cannot attend in person, the event will be shown live on the Facebook pages for The Teachers College, Emporia State University and the ESU Alumni Association.
