Goppert Foundation Awards Grant for Emporia State's Pediatric Care Simulation Room

Groundbreaking, Student Visit Day Set for April 24

Emporia, KS (04/03/2024) — The Goppert Foundation recently awarded Emporia State University a generous $100,000 grant for the new Nursing + Student Wellness Center's Pediatric Care Simulation Room. This immersive, hands-on learning environment for ESU's nursing students will be named in The Goppert Foundation's honor.

"The Goppert Foundation is a steadfast advocate for nursing education. Our donation to the Nursing + Student Wellness Building ensures that ESU will continue to be a beacon of innovation and excellence in nursing education," Goppert Foundation President Autumn Markley said.

Based in Lee's Summit, Missouri, The Goppert Foundation has also previously awarded Emporia State $100,000 for scholarships.

"Emporia State University is extremely grateful for The Goppert Foundation's support of our mission and our students," said ESU Foundation President Shane Shivley. "Not only do partners like The Goppert Foundation play a vital role in ESU's success, but they also invest in the healthcare needs in our region and provide higher education opportunities for students."

The new 32,000-square-foot Nursing + Student Wellness Center, opening in the fall of 2025, will significantly enhance students' academic experiences and address the growing demand for skilled nurses in Kansas and throughout the nation. The center will also house the university's student wellness, health care and counseling services.

The Goppert Foundation is a nonprofit private foundation that awards grants for education, medical facilities and other civic projects. The foundation was established in 1958 by the late Clarence H. Goppert.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the Nursing + Student Wellness Center will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24. This event is open to the public. Learn more at emporia.edu/nursing+studentwellness.

For prospective students interested in nursing or health professions, ESU is also hosting a special visit day on April 24.
