ESU's October art exhibitions explore Flint Hills and found objects

Emporia, KS (10/03/2025) — Emporia State's School of Visual and Performing Arts is kicking off October with multiple events and exhibitions.

On Friday, Oct. 3, from 4 to 5 p.m., speakers Lu Colby and Gregory Scott Cook will host Art Forum at the Lyon County History Center. Both artists, currently teaching art at Murray State University in Kentucky, will discuss their practices involving the manipulation and reference of found objects and materials-objects with known or unknown histories connected to them or lived through them. Art Forum is free and open to the public.

Cook and Colby are visiting artists at the Gilson Gallery in King Hall, where their exhibition MT Mountain will be on display. The exhibition is open to the public Oct. 3 to 31.

The Eppink Gallery features ESU art program painting student Lucy Jenab's Bachelor of Fine Arts exhibition titled In the Grass, which includes large-scale paintings and found objects-a love letter to the Flint Hills. The exhibit is also open to the public through Oct. 31.

A reception honoring the exhibitions by Cook, Colby and Jenab will take place Oct. 3, from 5 to 8 p.m. during Emporia First Friday in ESU's King Hall. Students, employees and the community are invited.
