Miranda Renfro nominated for Outstanding Senior award at Emporia State University

2011 Apr 27

Miranda Renfro, Williamsburg, is one of 21 Emporia State University seniors nominated for the school's highest undergraduate honor-the 2011 Dwight and Ida Curry Newberg Outstanding Senior Award. Renfro was recognized at the senior recognition banquet Monday, April 25.

Miranda is a Secondary Education/English major. Her parents are Karen and Samuel Renfro of Williamsburg.

Members of ESU's faculty nominated students for outstanding senior honors this year. "It's no small accomplishment that a faculty member thinks highly enough of you to write a nomination," remarked Dr. Michael R. Lane, ESU president, during the recognition banquet in ESU's Colonial Ballroom.

Nominations-and eventual selection for the two awards-are based on each student's academic standing, the scholarships, honors and awards accumulated during his or her ESU career, and the level of campus and community involvement each student demonstrates.

During the recognition banquet, Alli Jordan, an English major from Prairie Village, was named the Dwight and Ida Curry Newberg Distinguished Senior. Ashley McCullough, a Communication major from Council Grove, collected the top honor-the Dwight and Ida Curry Newberg Outstanding Senior award.

The awards honor the Newbergs, who established seven endowed funds that provide scholarships to ESU students.
