Mark Warner in Emporia State Summer Theatre Production, 'Maybe Baby, It's You'

2013 Jun 18

When Emporia State University's Summer Theatre opens the second show of its 59th season on June 26, Mark Warner of Salina, Kan., will be involved in the production of "Maybe Baby, It's You," a series of 11 vignettes about the search for a soul mate that is sure to warm the hearts of lovers everywhere.

Audiences will see stories that cover every aspect of the search for love. Transitions between scenes will be recordings of actual people talking about their search for love.

From the first kiss to the not-so-golden years of marriage, "Maybe Baby" is a wild ride through male-female relationships. We meet two lovers with a checklist of qualities for a significant other that quickly dumbs down to "warm and breathing" as the only requirement; an attractive, charismatic brain surgeon who can't catch a break because of his desire for not-very-graceful dancing; a couple celebrating their wedding anniversary who realize that marriage may not have ended their search for a soul mate; an elderly divorced couple who consider remarrying at their grandson's soccer game; and other would-be and shouldn't-be couples trying to find each other.

The 22 parts that the script demands are played by just four actors. Warner works in the scene shop.

The show runs June 26 through 29, and all performances are in the Karl C. Bruder Theatre in King Hall, with a 7:30 p.m. curtain. Individual tickets and season passes are available from the university box office at (620) 341-6378.
