Liem Halim is Pinned In Ceremony at Emporia State University

Liem Halim of Malang, East Java, Indonesia, was among 25 senior nursing students who were recognized during the pinning ceremony at the end of the spring 2012 semester. Halim received the Cora Miller Award selected by faculty as a senior nursing student who administeres nursing care by creative use of nursing knowledge and skills; shows a genuine interest in nursing by support and participation in professional, school and community activities; maintains an above-average academic standard and demonstrates leadership qualities, acceptance of responsibility, good personal conduct and appearance, dependability, initiative and a cooperative and positive attitude. Cora Miller was hired in 1922 - before the opening of Newman Memorial County Hospital - as the hospital's first superintendent and charged with organizing a nursing school, employing the nursing staff and other employees and preparing the hospital for its opening.

During the senior recognition ceremony of the Emporia State University Newman Division of Nursing, the graduating student nurses were pinned by the family or friend of their choice. They also received gifts from the medical staff of Newman Regional Health in Emporia.

Founded in 1863 as Kansas State Normal - the state's premier institution to educate teachers - Emporia State University offers 42 undergraduate and 27 graduate degrees in the School of Business, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, School of Library and Information Management and The Teachers College.
