Kayla Reyle Among Students Boosting Emporia State Call Center Totals

2013 Mar 25

If you've answered an Emporia State University Call Center telephone call this school year, you've spoken to a rock star. So says Angela Fullen, Emporia State Foundation director of annual giving as she thanks both the students for their efforts and the people making gifts to support the university's students, programs and departments.

"They're explaining that gifts can go directly into enhancement funds within each department," said Fullen, adding that alumni seem particularly gratified to be able to support the specific department from which they graduated. Gifts may also be designated for funds of excellence within each school or college, or for student scholarships.

While the Call Center staff took the week off for Emporia State's Spring Break, Fullen tallied up some impressive numbers. "Since January, they've raised almost $75,000," she said. "That's $10,000 more than the contribution total for the entire Spring 2012 semester."

Calls will continue for another six weeks, making Fullen optimistic about achieving $100,000 in gifts by the time the students wrap up their calling duties in May.

Students currently staffing Emporia State's Call Center include:

Kayla Reyle, a freshman Accounting major from Valley Falls, Kan.

The student callers have had some extra help at their disposal during their Sunday-Thursday evening calling sessions this year. The deans of each of Emporia State's schools or colleges spent an evening outlining achievements and priorities within academic departments. The students use that information when they're on the phone talking to Emporia State alumni and friends about gift opportunities.

The students have been encouraging gifts to the university's $45.3 million comprehensive campaign, Now and Forever: The Campaign for Emporia State University, announced during Emporia State's 150th anniversary gala in February.

"The generosity of our alumni this year is overwhelming," said DenaSue Potestio, Foundation president. "This comprehensive campaign is very special, and I'm humbled by the support that our Hornet Nation has shown as we continue changing lives."
