Kangwon Song Represents Emporia State University at Regional Theater Festival

Kangwon Song of Pusan, South Korea, was among 20 Emporia State University students to attend the Region V annual meeting of the Kennedy Center American Theatre Festival at Iowa State University Jan. 15 through 21.

Song was one of 64 students who made it to the second round of the Irene Ryan Scholarship auditions and earned best in the region for his design of the poster for "Eurydice."

Nearly 1,600 students and faculty from more than 50 colleges and universities in Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota attended the festival.

During the week, students had the opportunity to compete for scholarships as well as recognition of their design, directing and stage crew skills. They also could participate in workshops and theater readings directed by various faculty members from the region.
