Kalliope Craft Earns Scholarship in Essay Competition

2018 Mar 19

Kalliope Craft of Lane won second place and $863 in the Founders' Day Essay Contest at Emporia State University.

For the sixth year, ESU students submitted essays telling how Emporia State University changed their lives. Roe R. Cross Distinguished Professors at the university judged the essays and awarded two scholarships.

Funds are provided by members of the President's Community Advisory Board. The total amount of scholarships - $1,863 matches the year the university was founded.

Wrote Kraft: "The experience I had abroad really put the world into prospective and inspired many new ideas for my future classroom, all because ESU made it possible. I am forever grateful for all of the experiences and opportunities. From my first trip to ESU until now, it is not a stretch to say that my school did more than change me, it shaped me. My understanding of world travel has changed. My ideas about people different from me have changed. My goals for my classroom have changed. From my semester abroad, from the classes to the organizations, Emporia State University has paved the way to a full future in both my classroom teaching and my life.”
