Jasmine Greene Named Emporia State University Shepherd Scholar

2012 May 8

Celebrating the promise of continued academic achievement, Emporia State University introduced its 11 newest Shepherd Scholars Thursday, May 3.

Jasmine Greene, of Emporia, Kan., was named a 2012-13 Shepherd Scholar. Jasmine is majoring in political science, with a minor in Spanish.

"Thanks to your kindness and generosity, we have the opportunity to recognize some real rock stars, our best and brightest students," said Dr. Michael D. Shonrock, ESU president, expressing appreciation to the Shepherd family of Emporia. Augusta Shepherd and her late husband, R. Herschel Shepherd of Emporia established the Shepherd Scholars program in 1994 to provide financial support for ESU's most accomplished students as they approach their senior year in college.

"I'm amazed at the experiences these students have had and am thrilled to celebrate their achievements with them," Shonrock told the group of honorees, family, and the faculty members who nominated this year's Shepherd Scholars.
