Heather Tucker candidate for graduation from Emporia State University

Hats off to the more than 1,000 candidates for spring and summer graduation at Emporia State University. Heather Kristina Tucker of Towanda, Kansas, graduated with a Master of Science degree in Instructional Specialist with a concentration in Elementary STEM.

Students planning to finish their degrees in May or August were eligible to walk during either undergraduate or graduate commencement exercises on Saturday, May 13. Speaking at both ceremonies was Allison D. Garrett, president of Emporia State; Dr. David P. Cordle, provost and vice president for academic affairs; and Dennis Mullin of the Kansas Board of Regents.

Mullin, chairman of Steel and Pipe Supply, one of the largest steel service centers in the nation, was appointed to the Kansas Board of Regents in 2015. He is a member of the Business Advisory Council for the College of Business Administration at Kansas State University, Trustee Emeritus for the KSU Foundation, and a board member of the KS State Bank of Manhattan.

Dr. Nathan Mellor addressed the graduates at the undergraduate ceremony. Mellor is the CEO of the C3 Brands family of companies, the president of Strata Leadership and an adjunct professor at Oklahoma Baptist University and York College. He is dedicated to the development of future leaders and founded the Institute for Emerging Leader, which provides leadership opportunities for numerous companies. Mellor also founded the Academy of Sports and Character. The program is currently used in all Oklahoma City public secondary schools. While pursuing education and humanitarian causes, Mellor has lectured, taught and studied throughout America and abroad.
