Emporia State student Om Shrestha attends conference

Om Shrestha of Kathmandu, Nepal, was among a group of Emporia State students who attended the fourth annual Kansas Natural Resources Conference recently in Wichita, Kan.

Accompanying the students were Bill Jensen and Brenda Koerner, both assistant professors of biological sciences at ESU.

During the conference, faculty and students gave oral and poster presentations:

  • Nicholas Bell presented "Impacts of Patch-Burn Grazing on Fire Temperature and Sericea Lespedeza Seed Viability," co-authored with Brenda Koerner.
  • Levi Jaster presented "Patterns of Henslow's Sparrow Territories in Restored Grasslands of West-central Missouri," which was co-authored with Bill Jensen of ESU and Andrew Forbes of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
  • Jeffrey Miller presented "Occupancy Modeling of Bats Among Habitats in the Red Hills," which was co-authored by Tyleia Predergast and Bill Jensen of ESU.
  • Bill Jensen presented "Bird Occupancy in Relation to Habitat Structure in Cross Timbers Savanna."
  • Om Shrestha presented the poster, "Fishes in Paraguay's Mbaracayu Forest Biosphere Reserve," co-authored with David Edds, Alan Butler and Brian Blake, all of ESU, and Gerald Zuercher of the University of Dubuque in Iowa.
  • Matt Linden presented the poster, "Vegetative Basal Cover and Standing Root Biomass in Response to Shrub Encroachment and Prescribed Fire," co-authored with Brenda Koerner.
