Christine Tompkins is candidate for degree at Emporia State University

2014 Dec 22

Hats off to the more than 500 candidates for December graduation at Emporia State University. Christine Marie Tompkins of Emporia, Kansas, graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Music Education degree with a concentration in Performance.

Commencement speakers included Kenny Wilk, chair of the Kansas Board of Regents, who encouraged all graduates to consider giving back through public service of some kind. Dr. Charles Brown, professor of philosophy and the 2014 Roe R. Cross Distinguished Professor, urged graduates at the baccalaureate ceremony to consider what it means to be an Emporia State Hornet.

"You will forever be Emporia State University graduates and alumni," Brown said. "I only hope that what being a Hornet means to you is something that you will happily and wisely discover for the rest of your lives."
