Andrew McCutcheon in Emporia State Summer Theatre Production, 'Leaving Iowa'

2012 Jul 2

When Emporia State University's Summer Theatre opens its third show on July 1, Andrew McCutcheon of Gardner, Kan., will be involved in the production of "Leaving Iowa," a comedy by Tim Clue and Spike Manton.

"Leaving Iowa" is the story of Don Browning, a middle-aged writer, who returns home to finally take his father's ashes to his childhood home. But when Don discovers Grandma's house is now a grocery store, he begins traveling across Iowa searching for a proper resting place.

This father-and-son road trip shifts smoothly from the present to Don's memories of the annual, torturous vacations of his childhood. Don's existential journey leads him to reconcile his past and present at the center of the United States. "Leaving Iowa" is a postcard to anyone who has ever found themselves revisiting fond memories of his or her youth.

McCutcheon works in the costume shop and is the house manager.

The show runs July 11 through 14, and all performances are in the Karl C. Bruder Theatre in King Hall, with a 7:30 p.m. curtain. Individual tickets and season passes are available from the university box office at (620) 341-6378.
